Generally speaking, the costs of things rise as you head south. There are two primary transportation routes in South Maui, Highway 31, known locally as Pilani Highway, and South Kihei Road. Highway 31 parallels the coastline and is the faster way to travel because there is less traffic. However, because it is roughly a half-mile up the mountain it isn’t quite as scenic as South Kihei Road. South Kihei Road stretches along the stunning shoreline and eventually connects to the major north-south thoroughfare through Makena and Wailea.
